A short trip to SLC

On 17 th June we took Sarah to Primary

Children's Hospital very early in the morning,

Ashlyn went with us, since she would have

been with us for the day. Sarah had her

pacemaker removed. After she was feeling

better, we had a short tour at Temple Square

and then had lunch at the Ole Spaghetti Factory

before we returned to Provo. So this is another

thing that happened in the month of June.

We certainly tried to fill up the month of

June with lots of different activities. We also

helped Sarah move out of her apartment after

Spring Term was over and took her to the

airport, to fly to AZ. for a weeks visit with

Robert, Amanda, and Hannah, Aunt T.,

Grandpa and Grandma Hasty. She is now in

Sandpoint, Idaho for the remainder of the

summer.

June was also our 49th anniversary (on the 24th), so we got up and
decided to run away for a couple of days. We took off and drove to
Mt. Pleasant and had lunch, drove to Ephriam and roamed around,
then to Manti for a little more roaming, I had to check out a couple of
craft places. Then we drove on down to Mt. Carmel Junction for the
night.

Oquirrah Mountain Temple Open House

Another June activity, was going to tour the
Oquirrah Mounntain Temple, during the open
house. It was beautiful, as they all are in their own
special way. Sam, Jen, Ashlyn and Sarah went
with us (or rather we all went with Sam-he drove)
so Grandpa and I had a restful ride once again.

We spent a great day with Danny and Brinda and
their families in Logan on 5th June 2009, where they
were married for all eternity in the Logan Temple.

Memorial Day Cemetery Visits

Sam's parents are buried in the Moroni Cemetery,
along with lots and lots of other Blackham's (just ask
Ashlyn) I felt the same as Ashlyn did, the first time I
visited the Moroni cemetery.

This picture of three granddaughters taken on
Monday when we traveled to the Moroni Cemetery,
where many 'Blackham's' are buried. Sam drove this
time, so we (the grandparents) had a leisurely ride.

On Saturday before Memorial Day we went to
Draper Cemetery to my Dad's and Virginia's
grave. We took Ashlyn with us
she wanted to take some flowers to her grandpa-great's grave, too.
I was a quick trip, but we enjoyed the ride and the time we had in the
cemetery.

in bloom while I was there and looked so neat. I was

Church, to check out our Mom's grave site.

Wasatch Range DAR

This is the flowering Cherry tree our
chapter of DAR planted in the American
Fork.

A small group of our chapter ladies that were
able to help with the planting. It was a great
little project to be involved in. Reports are
that the tree (a 25 footer) has blossoms on it
and looks beautiful. (two weeks after the planting)

More Thanksgiving Point Gardens

It was a special treat to see a pair of Canadian Geese
with some little ones. They caught everyones attention.

I could have spent the entire day walking the paths
and looking at the flowers. Sam walked with me
most of the time, bless his heart. It was lots of
walking, but Oh, so beautiful!!

Thanksgiving Point Gardens, Tulip Festival

A cute little guy kept coming up to Sam while we
were in the 'Secret Garden' and Sam picked him up and I took this picture. His name was
Damion (sp?) and his Russian Grandmother was with him, visiting the gardens.

This picture and all the tulips was taken in 'The
Secret Garden.

This was the first time we had been to these gardens @ Thanksgiving
Point. We got up one morning and just decided to take the morning
and go up. We had a couple of free admissions (compliments of Sam
and Jen) that we had to use. It was a prefect day and it was so
gorgeous. We enjoyed it and were so glad we went.

as well.

Morgan took us to lunch on campus, for my
birthday and it was a fairly nice day.

Then we had 'winter' again and this is what
it looked like the next couple of days. We
were beginning to wonder if it would ever end.

It was nice enough that I had gotten some of my
garden things out and this is what my barrel
birdhouse looked like one morning.

Three pictures from the Ex-Mex Reunion in April,

before General Conference. Sam and one of his

favorite companions (Ken Goodman) Ken hasn't attended

a reunion for many years and Sam always wondered where

he was. Sam was so excited to see him and we found out

what all they have been doing and where they have been.

This bottom picture is of Juan Pelaez, a youngster in one

of the Branches while Sam was on his mission in Mexico.
He now lives in the SLC. His sister lives in Orem and she

also came to the reunion.

I was going to post more often. You can see that didn't happen, since my last post was in Feb.!!
A few things have happened since then, so I will try to bring you up to date. I will start with a trip to Ogden, to hear Elder Ryan Archer report his mission.

Hannah and 'Coach'

We got these pictures from Morgan,

she took them in November while she was in Arizona

for Thanksgiving. Taken while Hannah was

at her 'riding lesson', on her horse Coach. She is

still taking lessons, but now has a different horse.

that we rarely see. She is growing up so fast. She's 9 now.

Over the last four months I (Belle) have spent a lot of

time with the cub scouts in our Ward. Here is one picture

On the way home, we went by the Moroni Cemetery. The snow was

all melted and the grass was brown, but it was still a very pretty place.

The sky was gorgeous and the day was perfect for chasing eagles.

Here is Mr Bald Eagle by himself. They are such

awesome, huge birds. They are amazing to see,

especially in flight with the sun shining on their white heads.

We love and have tried for the last 5 or 6 years to

head down to San Pete County in Utah for Bald Eagle Day.

This year it was on Saturday 7th of Feb. and we were able

to go down.Sometimes they have a real eagle at the sign in location, but

this year it was a stuffed one, but Sam got pretty excited anyway. We roamed

the back roads and managed to spot 20 Bald Eagles before we headed home.

Some of the ladies in my neighborhood made some quilts, using up our scraps of fabric. We had a great time and came up with some really cute quilts. Jennifer took them to the babies in the hospital where she works.

We went mainly for Sybelle's 50th class reunion. These are the four girls I graduated with. We had a great time getting to know each other again, actually we picked up right where we left off 50 years ago. Two of the guys have passed on, but the girls are still going strong.

The first day we were there, we had lunch with Brenda Knepper and her husband Rollie. Brenda is Virginia's niece. We have had fun getting to know each other. She is younger than I am, but teaches Math in a Junior High, so she and Sam have lots to talk about.

Diane took this picture of Sam and I, the middle of May, when we went to Ogden to spend the afternoon with Bob and Diane and have dinner. I have gone on long enough I think, so I will end with this picture.

I took this right before we left for Sandpoint. I was so excited to have a blossom on my Poppy. I have been babying this plant for about four years and this is the first flower ever. It had a dozen buds on it when we left and all opened while we were gone, but my backyard neighbor told me she enjoyed them for me.

I took these on one of our warmer days this spring, when my flowers in the front yard were looking good. This is rock cress by the front of the house.

Graduation for Morgan

Trip to the northwest, Sandpoint, Idaho and Seattle,Washington

We also went up to Everett, north of Seattle, to visit with another cousin, Alice, youngest sister of Marjie. While there, we went to the Cypress Lawn Cemetery where Grandma Archer is buried. It didn't rain on us there, for which I was grateful. Alice works at the hospital in Everett and we had lunch with her there, no picture :( of Alice, my camera was in the car.

Another area of the Arboretum. It was so beautiful, what can I say!

Sort of a dark picture, but it was raining. We drove through the Arboretum(sp?) on the campus of the University of Washington. I hope that is right. It was absoluetly gorgeous and the rain made it so lush and green. These trees just covered the road like a canopy.

The cousins that hadn't seen each other for some time. Marjie is my Dad's youngest sister's oldest child and I am my Dad's oldest child. It was fun to get together with her and visit. It rained most of the time we were in the Seattle area.

This is the Columbia River. Our next event was a three day trip over to Seattle, Washington, to visit with my cousins. We enjoyed the drive and more beautiful country. We crossed the bridge in the background, over to Vantage, Washington and visited the Ginkgo Petrified Forest there.

The night of the open house was also Prom night for Sandpoint High School, so after this picture was taken, we didn't see much of Morgan until the next day. She had a great time. She went with Jacob and boy in their Sandpoint Ward.

The first event of our trip north was the open house for Sarah's and Morgan's cousin, Alijandra (Miller) Lanenga. Andrew (Drew) is from Orlando, Florida and they were married there on 22 May 2008. The open house was held on the deck of the Miller home in Sandpoint, Idaho. It is so beautiful up in that part of Idaho. This is the happy couple if you haven't guessed.

Martha Robinson Blackham is the one that came from England and started all of the Blackhams in Utah. Ashlyn took the 'trek' with her Dad and Grandpa to all the ancestors in the Moroni Cemetery.

This is a picture of Ashlyn at her great-grandparents grave. We have pictures of our kids and our older grandkids like this, so we had to have one of Ashlyn, too.

Sam and Ashlyn went with Sam and I to Moroni this year. Ashlyn had prepared a lunch and brought it with her, when we got to the cemetery and were putting out flowers on Sam parents grave, Ashlyn took her lunch bag, found a comfy spot and had lunch. It was so cute and fun.

Mex-Reunion

Sam and I went to a Mexican Missionary Reunion last night. (Fri.) We had a great time, but Sam had an even greater time than I did. Here he is pictured with one of the missionaries that served in the mission. Elder Juan Becerra and his wife Celia. He is now a counselor to former missionary,Elder Ned Rouche, who is currently President of the Mexico City Temple. Elder Boise in the background with the hat on.

This evening, Belle and I attended a banquet at BYU with our granddaughter, Sarah, at which she was inducted into the National Honor Society of PHI ETA SIGMA, which is for freshman students in the top 20% of their class. It was a very enjoyable evening at which 362 BYU freshman were welcomed into this society.

It has been a joy to have Sarah here at BYU this past year. She has enjoyed school and has done very well in her classes. We are very proud of her.

A fun Saturday- 15 March 2008

We left home for a fun afternoon and evening in the 'big' city of Salt Lake. We (Sam and I) met my brother Bob and Diane to hang out together. We were doing a lot of hanging out together while we were clearing Dad and Virginia's house in Draper, since that was completed, we haven't seen each other as much, so we planned this time together. We had a GREAT time, even had a walk in the snow at the end of it all. Will it ever stop snowing?
Anyway, we saw a little bit of the LDS Museum of Church History and Art, then walked over to the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and watched the latest film, "Joseph Smith, the Prophet of the Restoration" and after that we went upstairs to 'The Garden' Resturant and had a wonderful dinner and topped it off with some gooey desserts. We had such a good time together, we plan to do it more often.
WOW!, I will post this, but just realized the pictures are still on the camera, so you will get those later. It is my age, I think!! I did have my camera with me, amazing.

Ashlyn - Christmas morning 2007

We found a picture of Ashlyn, taken Christmas morning (2007) in her Christmas pj's and her Santa hat, which she slept in. Here she is with her favorite toy of the morning. A wooden 'train' whistle she got in her stocking. Before Christmas they rode the Polar Express up Provo Canyon (AKA the Heber Creeper) so Ashlyn was excited to have the 'train whistle'. She spent most of the remainder of the morning running around tooting this whistle.

I am totally new at this, but I get so excited looking at Lana's and Tara's Blogs, we thought we would try to add a picture to our blog. Sarah took this picture in San Lucas Cabo, Mexico after Christmas. She and Morgan spent a week there with Robert, Amanda and Hannah. They had a lot of fun and Sarah took tons of pictures. If this works, we will try something else later.
